The jewellery industry is notorious for its insane mark-ups on products and confusing array of terminology related to the metals used or gemstone grades – as with the “four C’s” of diamonds.
Now, a new start-up – that’s managed to rise up fame with today’s ever growing demand– is trying to change that. With its online jewellery marketplace, the company aims to not only offer great deals on chains, iced out pendants, bracelets, earrings, and more, but also wants to educate consumers so they know what price they should be paying for a given item.
New York Based – ZEDICED.COM is led by ZED himself the Founder & CEO, who has always had a special passion for diamonds. From taking his older brother’s jewelry and posing in front of the mirror when he was 6 to spending hours in iced chain stores as a teenager, his ‘forbidden’ love for these expensive stones is what people knew him for. Expectedly, he started working as an artisan at his local jewellery hub as soon as he graduated from college.
INSIDER INFORMATION: DIAMONDS ARE NOT INTRINSICALLY VALUABLE
Working hand-in-hand with the best in the business, ZED slowly started to realise what is going on behind the curtains:
DIAMONDS HAVEN’T BEEN RARE STONES SINCE 1870, WHEN HUGE DIAMOND MINES WERE DISCOVERED IN SOUTH AFRICA.
On the contrary, with this supply available they would quickly become almost everyday item.
But because of the big companies and brilliant marketing agencies who created and manipulated demand for diamonds by monopolising the market and changing people’s attitude towards rings and marriage, diamonds became the synonym for luxury.
A luxury only a privileged few can afford.
Unable to change this fact, ZED decided to make a small career change and dedicate his life to serving different clientele - People like you, who want and deserve the same luxury as diamonds owners, just at lower cost.
That’s how zediced.com was born and that’s where this story really begins.
ZEDICED.COM also recently raised over $1.5 million in crowd funding, in an oversubscribed round which included investment from major Angel Investors that were left to be unknown when asked for their names.
ZED himself has brought about the market potential that he saw and explains:
“The online part of jewellery is still in its ‘babyhood’ phase, he claims”. While the U.S jewelry market today is over $80 billion (for fine jewelry and watches combined), the e-commerce portion is still very small.
“Its between 5 and 7 percent of the total jewelry market that’s actually online”
“It’s one of those ‘left behind’ categories – it’s still stuck in the dark ages. And the growth you can experience in an underdeveloped category is huge,” he adds.
All funds will be used to in research and development of better quality human made diamond stimulants also known as Cubic Zirconia Stones and refining the best polish closest to real solid gold.
ZEDICED.COM website today operates as a marketplace, and specifically one that targets the middle of the market – meaning urban hip hop jewelry around the $80 price point, not $5,000-plus or even $50,000 for a simple tennis necklace, as on high-end sites.
ZED explains that ZEDICED.COM advantage over other marketplaces is that it’s a Urban Hip Hop jewelry-specific site. Ebay may be large, but its reputation is still that it’s a “secondhand” marketplace. Amazon, meanwhile, isn’t specifically designed for selling jewelry and doesn’t always have all the attributes an online jewelry store would have.
Today, there are currently over 250 SKUs online with about 10 different customised theme that allow our customers to create something personal and meaningful to themselves curating a unique experience.
Having bling necklace chains isn't only about having a shiny piece of urban hip hop jewelry, but you get to represent what you stand for. With all of the pendants available for bling chains, you will be able to find all different types of designs. You may see many important people in the hip hop industry rockin' bling bling chains that have their country's flag or religious icons.
